Why Koh Gen Do’s Famous Foundation Is Perfect for People With Freckles

Lindsay Lohan has changed a lot since her days as a child entertainer. After legal and substance-abuse troubles in the mid-2000s, her onscreen appearances became a mix of acting and being the subject of documentaries. Then, after living abroad for several years, she started a new career as a club owner in Greece. Now back in the spotlight for her MTV reality show, Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club, it’s clear that at least one thing about Lohan hasn’t changed: her instantly recognizable freckles.

Makeup artist Rob Scheppy regularly posts stunning photos of Lohan, with whom he’s been working for several months. And no matter what lip color or eye-shadow shade Lohan is wearing, it seems they agree to keep one element of her look the same: letting those famous freckles show. Refinery29 recently spoke to Scheppy about Lohan’s go-to beauty products, and he revealed that he relies on a foundation by a beloved Japanese makeup brand to give her a glowing look that’s true to her complexion.

“I like Koh Gen Do’s Aqua Foundation,” Scheppy told Refinery29. “It isn’t heavy and leaves the skin dewy, so you can still see the gorgeous skin underneath.”

Recently renamed Maifanshi Aqua Foundation, Koh Gen Doh’s site says it was “redesigned for increased coverage, radiance, hydration and longevity,” Despite that increased coverage, it’s still freckle-friendly and super-lightweight. And yet, the hydrating formula, which feels like an especially indulgent makeup investment at $70, stays put through sweat — an obvious must if you spend a lot of time at beach clubs in Greece.

That said, sometimes Lohan and Scheppy prefer an even more bare-faced look. “The summer in Mykonos is so hot and we’re at a beach club all day, so we tried to never put too much makeup on,” he said. “Luckily, she looks so young and beautiful with no makeup.”
