We Asked the Mad Queen Emilia Clarke to Sing Jazz — and Wow, Her Voice Is Amazing
If you’re only familiar with the Emilia Clarke who plays one of the most famous characters on one of the most storied shows of our generation, then it’s probably hard to picture her, say, trimming a plant. And yet, that’s exactly what the Game of Thrones heroine and our esteemed cover star happily did for us on the day of her shoot, along with eight other random — and sometimes downright outlandish — activities she’s never done before.
Two of the aforementioned activities included attempting to balance an oversized egg on her head and singing the ABCs in blues-style tune. We were rather surprised when the balancing act didn’t go over so well for the Mother of Dragons actress, who’s worked with her fair share of dragon eggs in the past, but as for the ABCs? She totally nailed it. If she ever decides to go back to being a full-time jazz singer (it’s no joke, folks, she used to sing in New York City for the likes of Nicole Kidman), we’d be her biggest fans.
She also had the chance to play “beauty technician” on a fan who eagerly lent her precious eyebrows for the sole purpose of Clarke trying to fill them in while blindfolded. Yes, blindfolded. Did she succeed? No. No, she did not. Was it hilarious to watch? Absolutely. It made it even better that Clarke never takes herself too seriously; she was laughing the whole time, which inherently put everyone on set at ease — even the fan who wound up with wonky brows couldn’t help but crack a smile.
Another task Clarke had down: drawing a bird with a quill and ink. “I can do this!” she says, exuding all the self-assurance in the world — and do it, she did. Curious to see what happened we she tried cutting into a watermelon with her still-dull cleaver and the other fun things the Mad Queen did on set? Tune in to watch her go head to head with the giant fruit in the full video above.
