Watch Serena Williams Try Her Hand at Tennis Ball Nail Art
When you hear the name Serena Williams and “skills,” there’s probably one thing that pops into your head: tennis. Although she also has a particular knack for fashion, motherhood, and speaking truth to power. So it should come as no surprise that our February cover star isn’t content to sit back on her laurels as merely the greatest athlete of all time. Williams is also an incredibly good sport (sorry, had to) about trying new things, and we got the 37-year-old to do just that during a recent visit to the Allure offices.
Williams tried nine things she’s never done before, and while we’re not exactly advocating that she quit her day job, it was surprisingly hard to find challenges that the tennis legend couldn’t rise to. (Which is probably not too shocking, given that she’s both a four-time Olympic gold medalist and a new mom to 16-month-old Alexis Olympia Ohanian. She’s quite literally seen it all.)
The closest we got to tripping her up was when we asked Williams to give a staffer a tennis-themed manicure. “I feel like if there’s one thing I should be able to do, it’s draw a tennis ball,” Williams muttered as she struggled with the polish, adding, “I’ve hit, like, literally a trillion of them.” Luckily, she got better results during a timed challenge organizing makeup into tennis ball containers and hulta-hooping with a GoPro. Oh and the audio of Williams pronouncing beauty products in French — of course she’s multilingual — is the stuff of your ASMR dreams.
I’m off to splice this clip into one continuous loop so I can fall asleep to the GOAT soothingly whispering brosse à cheveux into my ears as I drift off, but the entire video is very much worth a watch.
