People Think Meghan Markle Broke Wimbledon’s Famously Strict Dress Code

Currently, there are rumors flying around that Meghan Markle, who’s been known to break royal style and beauty protocols on occasion, broke Wimbledon’s dress code — but did she really?

Turns out it’s all one big misunderstanding, and the Duchess of Sussex did not, in fact, break the famous tennis tournament’s dress code. Here’s what actually happened: Markle was seen sitting separately from the rest of the royal family, not because she made a fashion faux pas, but because she wanted to watch and support her friend, Serena Williams, reports W Magazine. She was seen wearing denim jeans, which are not allowed in the Royal Box; however, they’re 100-percent permitted elsewhere at the tournament. As for the rest of her ensemble, she wore a black top underneath a white blazer with black sunglasses and an Indiana Jones-esque black and white hat.

Seeing as she was more than likely aware of the Royal Box dress code ahead of time (Markle wore a striped button-down shirt and cream-colored slacks to the event last year), there’s a solid chance that she never planned on entering the royal area to begin with. It’s entirely possible that she was simply there to watch Williams in her match; as W points out, even Kate Middleton spent some time out of the Royal Box when she first arrived at Wimbledon last week, so it’s not like it’s taboo or super out-of-the-ordinary. Even royals want some time to be “normal,” too.

Now that we’ve cleared that up, can we please take a second to reflect on her chic post-baby style?
