Kaja’s New Balm Lets You Highlight Your Face With a Tiny Paint Roller

For as many formats as highlighter comes in, there are at least twice as many ways to apply it. Powder highlighters work well with lots of different brushes, and even fingers. The manual technique is also an obvious choice for liquid and cream highlighters, the latter of which often come in stick form for direct application. And don’t count out sponges — always a great choice for a glowy cheek. But one new highlighter comes with an applicator like none we’ve seen before, and quite frankly, it’s genius.

Announcing its new product with an Instagram video, Korean beauty brand Kaja writes, “Smooth, balm formula — infused with pink ruby powder — melts into skin, delivering a duo-chrome highlight that flatters all skin tones.” But as gorgeous as this highlighting balm is, they buried the lede: “The unique roller applicator is designed to add a soft, even radiance.”

That’s right: This pearlescent golden-pink highlighter is made to be applied with what looks exactly like a tiny toy paint roller — something that an American Girl doll might paint her bedroom walls with. It’s essentially a sponge, but the cylindrical shape mounted on a roller makes it super-easy (and fun) to evenly apply the radiant formula.

In the video, we see it being rolled atop the solid balm in the compact (in which the roller also fits when not being used) and then applied with a similar motion along a model’s cheekbones and temples. Kaja had also previously posted a teaser photo suggesting Roller Glow can also be used on shoulders — and you can’t deny how lovely it looks.

According to sephora.com, where Roller Glow just launched for $28, “It reflects light, creating a disco glow that dries to a lightweight powder finish,” never leading to a cakey look. But if you want to see that for yourself by trying it before you buy it, you’ll have to wait until January 25, when it lands in Sephora stores.
